The United States of America (USA), commonly referred to as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic consisting of 50 states and a federal district. The 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., are in central North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is located in the northwestern part of North America and the state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The country also has five populated and numerous unpopulated territories in the Pacific and the Caribbean. At 3.80 million square miles (9.85 million km2) and with over 320 million people, the United States is the world’s fourth-largest country by total area and third most populous. It is one of the world’s most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many countries. The geography and climate of the United States are also extremely diverse, and the country is home to a wide variety of wildlife.
American public education is operated by state and local governments, regulated by the United States Department of Education through restrictions on federal grants. There are also local community colleges with generally more open admission policies, shorter academic programs, and lower tuition.
Higher education in the United States is often at one of the 4,495 colleges or universities and junior colleges in the country. Like high school, the four undergraduate grades are commonly called freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years (alternatively called first year, second year, etc).The universities of USA are among some of the top universities in the world; Stanford University, Harvard University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are all ranked in the global top 10 in the 2013 QS World University Rankings, with Massachusetts ranked first.
The United States, with its large size and geographic variety, includes most climate types. To the east of the 100th meridian, the climate ranges from humid continental in the north to humid subtropical in the south. The southern tip of Florida is tropical, as is Hawaii.
Students who have been accepted at a U.S. school and are able to pay the full costs of their study are eligible to apply for a student visa. To qualify for a student visa, a student must demonstrate their qualifications as a student and the seriousness of their course of study in the US. Applicants should be prepared to discuss their reasons for studying in the United States and the details of their intended studies.
Students have to submit an application to the state Immigration office and a supporting letter from your education provider (educational institute) is required in which your institute allowing you to take up employment and also stating the semester holidays. The institution (Public/Private) will have to provide the list of student names that are working and student’s performance report to Immigration Department every 3 months.
